Integrated School Health Initiative (ISHI) is and initiative of the mmm. It is one of the community-based programmes of the Dental and Oral Health Foundation International (DOHFI).
Research shows that any child that is impaired visually, in hearing and orally will have difficulty learning optimally, no matter how little the impairment. This informed ISHI’s drive in going out on school visits as a means of improving the health and learning curve of children. The Integrated School Health Initiative seeks to mobilize the youth and strengthen health promotion and education in schools.
Although the initiative is primarily designed to improve the health of students and pupils, it also embraces their teachers and parents. The focus is the eye, ear, and mouth, without leaving out general body checks. Follow up visits are also included where needed.
